Microsoft has begun rolling out Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.7752 (KB5074177) to participants in the Windows Insider Program’s Beta Channel. This update continues Microsoft’s approach of delivering early quality updates and features for testing before general availability.
How Beta Channel Updates Are Delivered
Build updates in the Beta Channel are organized into two groups:
- Features and fixes that are gradually being rolled out to Insiders who have enabled the “get the latest updates as they are available” toggle in Settings > Windows Update.
- Features and fixes that are rolling out broadly to everyone in the Beta Channel over time.
This controlled rollout helps Microsoft monitor and refine features before wider distribution.
Changes and Improvements Being Gradually Rolled Out
Built-in Sysmon Functionality
One of the major additions in this build is the native integration of Sysmon into Windows. Sysmon is a powerful system monitoring tool that allows users to capture detailed system events useful for threat detection and analysis.
Once enabled, Sysmon logs system events to the Windows Event Log, making the data available to security tools and monitoring systems.
- Important: Built-in Sysmon is disabled by default and must be manually enabled.
- You can turn it on via:
Settings > System > Optional features > More Windows features → check Sysmon
or by using:Dism /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:Sysmon sysmon -i - If you previously installed Sysmon from the Sysinternals website, that version must be uninstalled before enabling the built-in Sysmon.
Microsoft plans to add official documentation for this feature to Windows soon.
Voice Access Enhancements
This build also expands Voice Access support by adding the Netherlands locale, broadening accessibility support for users in Dutch-speaking regions.
Fixes Being Gradually Rolled Out
File Explorer Improvements
Several fixes have been included to improve reliability and usability in File Explorer:
- Better keyboard navigation and support for access keys
- Corrected behavior when renaming folders with custom names
- Restored icons and tooltips for the “Add to favorites” option
Other System Fixes
This update also addresses an issue that could cause applications to freeze when interacting with files stored in OneDrive or Dropbox. Additionally, some Outlook configurations with PST files on OneDrive suffered from hangs or required data reloads—those behaviors have now been fixed.
Important Reminders for Windows Insiders
Microsoft also provided several key reminders for Insiders participating in the Beta Channel:
- This build is based on Windows 11, version 25H2, provided via an enablement package on top of existing installations.
- Features use Controlled Feature Rollout technology, meaning only a subset of Insiders might see them initially.
- Insiders who want features as soon as they are available should enable the appropriate toggle in Settings > Windows Update.
- Some experiences in these builds may never ship in a final release—Microsoft may change, remove, or replace them entirely based on feedback.
- Features under development might not be fully localized immediately—Insiders are encouraged to submit localization feedback through the Feedback Hub.
- For a complete view of builds available across Insider channels, Microsoft directs testers to check Flight Hub.
Windows Insider Program Team closed the announcement with thanks to the community for their ongoing feedback and participation in refining Windows 11.
